Story – The Gatekeeper and the Travellers

A traveller entering a city encounters the gatekeeper. He turns to the gatekeeper and asks. ‘What are the folk like in this town, as I expect they are like the folk in the town I have just left?’ They were all absolutely awful, unwelcoming people. I couldn’t trust any of them. I knew it the minute I saw them!’

To which the gate keeper replies ‘They’re exactly the same here!’

Later that day another traveller encounters the gatekeeper. ‘ Excuse me sir,’ he smiles, ‘May I ask what the folk are like in this town? Im hoping they are like the folk in the last town. So incredibly kind, warm and welcoming. I felt sad to leave. I do hope they’re as lovely here, I expect they will be.’

The gatekeeper replies ‘You will find the people are exactly like that here!’
